Abstract

Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a zoonotic disease caused by the parasite Leishmania infantum transmitted by infected sandflies. In Brazil, there are approximately 3,500 human cases annually, with the highest lethality in the northeast region. This study analyzed the seropositivity of Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis (CVL) in Pederneiras-SP, in the period between 2014 and 2023, and compared it with that of other municipalities in the state of São Paulo. For this purpose, the results of the tests (TR DPP® Bio-Manguinhos) performed on 2,815 blood samples from dogs in Pederneiras, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, were analyzed. The estimated seropositivity was 3.38% in the period evaluated. Although Pederneiras is located in an endemic area for CVL, it has maintained a low coefficient of seropositivity for CVL when compared to other municipalities in the state of São Paulo, such as Marília (22.63%) and Araçatuba (8.4%).
