Abstract

This study evaluated the microscopic and gross findings in the larynx of horses with experimental laryngeal hemiplegy submitted to subtotal arytenoidectomy, with and without removal of the mucosa lining. The surgical technique of subtotal arytenoidectomy becomes easier to perform when the cartilage and the lining mucosa are removed as a single piece, as demonstrated by clinical exams, endoscopy, gross exanimation and histopathology of the larynges. The post operative results are similar to those obtained with the traditional technique.
